Kirk Bowden

Chair

Kirk started volunteering at the Food pantry in 2014. Kirk showed up to the Food Pantry at Thanksgiving and started handing out turkeys to the clients so they could have a thanksgiving dinner. After that Kirk was hooked and started volunteering on a weekly basis because giving back to the community he felt strong about. Today Kirk is the Chair of the Board at the food pantry and is involved in many decisions to improve the food pantry and being able to offer healthy options to our clients.

Chris Cartwright

Vice-Chair

Chris Cartwright has over 15 years’ experience in sales and management in both corporate and small business. He has volunteered at various charities throughout his career, but really felt passionate about the Newmarket food pantry after volunteering there in 2014. Chris wanted to get more involved so in late 2015 he was hired as a Board member and in 2017 became Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. Chris also spends his time volunteering as a head coach for the Newmarket Baseball Association and is the Director of the “Golf Fore Kids” tournament that he began in 2007.

Mark Wretham

Vice-Chair

Mark joined the Newmarket Food Pantry Board of Directors in July, 2019. As a 20+ year resident of Newmarket, Mark feels passionate about the community and the people that live within our amazing town. As a graduate of Georgian College in Business & Event Management and as an entrepreneur owning local community publications in Barrie & Newmarket, Mark has been involved in many community and charitable events both on the organization and participant side. Through these experiences, Mark has extensive knowledge and experience with event management and execution and looks forward to bringing these assets to the Board of Directors. Mark is excited and dedicated to serving our community by helping those in need by assisting with the growing demand at the Newmarket Food Pantry.

Juliane Goyette

Treasurer

Juliane lives in Newmarket with her husband Mike. Together they have two children and a puppy. She has been employed in the financial services industry since graduating from McMaster University in 1994.  She works in her family business as Branch Manager and Financial Advisor alongside her father. Over the years, Juliane has been involved in several local charitable organizations, schools and athletic groups.  She is a believer in giving back to her community through volunteerism and the sponsoring of various sport teams and local events. She is passionate about helping those in need which has led her to serve with the Newmarket Food Pantry.  She strongly believes in the Newmarket Food Pantry’s motto of ‘Nourishing Neighbours’ and feels that all individuals should have healthy options for themselves and their families.

Marjorie Lavery

Secretary

Marjorie Lavery joined the Newmarket Food Pantry Board of Directors in January, 2018. As a 20 year employee of IBM, Marjorie has held various roles in sales and operations. When she’s not busy with her family and has some free time, Marjorie can often be found running along the Tom Taylor Trail. A lifetime resident of York Region and a proud citizen of Newmarket for the last six years, Marjorie is enthusiastically dedicated to serving on the board to help meet the growing demand of those with food insecurities in our community.

Morgan Foot

Morgan has been a Newmarket resident for over ten years, originally from Banff Alberta. Morgan is currently employed with the York Catholic District School Board.  She is a graduate of Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. She can often be found volunteering her time with local organizations and events, and prides herself on the community work she is involved with. A busy mother of two, Morgan enjoys spending her ‘limited’ free time gardening, painting, drawing, and honing her abilities with American Sign Language. Morgan joined the board in 2017. She has been a great addition to our team and has helped out with a number of projects around the pantry.

Gabriel D’Aoust

Gabriel D’Aoust has lived in the GTA for the past 36 years and is a resident of Newmarket for the past three years. He is retired after selling his Business Landscape Planning Limited in 2012 after 39 years of providing Landscape Architectural consulting services to GTA Municipalities, Land Developers Groups, and private property owners. He was a member of the Vaughan Rotary Club for over 25 years and the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce for five years. Judy and Gabe have been married for 50 years, have four daughters and nine grand children.

Todd Holloway

Todd and his wife have raised two boys in Newmarket having bought their home here in 1995. Todd has over 30 years of experience as a technology executive most recently at DXC and prior to that at IBM working in the banking industry. A graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics and a second degree at Laurier for business. He has had additional educational experiences at Harvard and Wharton schools of business. He has been volunteering at the foodbank since 2021 and loves the Newmarket and Foodbank communities.

Picture this: A single dad, working overtime to ma Picture this: A single dad, working overtime to make ends meet, barely has time to cook. Thanks to our incredible friends at York CAS - Children's Services, he finds a delicious pasta dinner waiting at the food pantry. That meal doesn't just fill his belly; it fuels his hope. 🍝💖

That's the ripple effect York CAS creates in our community. Their ongoing support, like the 11 family-sized pasta dishes, 10 dozen chocolate chip cookies, and 16 pasta salads (totalling 68 meals!) they prepared, reaches far beyond our kitchen. It strengthens families, uplifts spirits, and nourishes our community from the inside out. 🙌🍪🥗

Their generosity knows no bounds, and we are so grateful for their continued commitment to ending hunger in Newmarket.

What a blast we had with the York CAS - Family Ser What a blast we had with the York CAS - Family Services team in our Community Kitchen! Together, they whipped up 14 family-sized taco casseroles, 12 delicious blondies, and 24 refreshing pasta salads – that's 67 meals total! 🌮🥗😋

This amazing effort not only feeds our neighbours facing food insecurity but also strengthens our community bonds and the teams involved. The joy and teamwork in that kitchen? Priceless! 💖
